Homeowners in Templeton, California used the “Get a Quote” feature on the Copher Tile & Stone website to contact us regarding new tile installation services for their outdated bathroom. After we viewed images of their bathroom and discussed the project with them to understand their vision for the space, they scheduled a job site consultation.
Although the old bathroom tile was fully functional and not damaged in any way, the homeowners had good reasons to replace it. Their aesthetic preferences had changed. They wanted to update the pattern, color, and layout of their tile floor and shower walls.
Ease of maintenance was also a concern. With 12×12 tiles on the floor and 4×4 tiles in the shower-tub combo, there were a lot of grout lines to keep clean.
Regarding material selection, the homeowners loved the look of marble but not the price tag or maintenance requirements. They selected gorgeous gray and white 12″x24″ porcelain tile with a marble pattern for both the floor and shower walls.
With all the details ironed out, they signed a contract and scheduled installation services.
In preparation for the project, we discussed our tile layout plans with the homeowners so they would know what to expect.
We masked and protected the surfaces surrounding our work area and placed floor protectors between the entrance we were using and the bathroom door.
Before installing the tiles, we measured them to check for minor variances in the tile size and adjusted our grout joint width accordingly.
What is under a tile floor is just as important to the success of an installation as the tile itself. We are diligent about proper substrate preparation on every project. We used Laticrete’s STRATA_MAT™ uncoupling membrane over the plywood subfloor to prevent tile cracking.
For the shower walls, we inspected the studs and made minor adjustments. Then, we installed Mapeguard Board to ensure the shower walls were well-protected against mold and mildew.
During the tile installation process, we followed manufacturer instructions and industry-approved installation methods, including using the proper safety gear.
To protect the tile edges on the shower bench and give the installation a nice, clean, finished look, we used Schluter® edge profiles.
Our final steps was to caulk, put away our tools, remove protective coverings, and meticulously clean the bathroom.
The homeowners were impressed with their bathroom’s sophisticated, modern appearance and eager to proceed with the final decorative details. You don’t have to take our word for it. Read the enthusiastic review they wrote for us after having us come back to do a second bathroom!
